Fire Emblem: Engage comes with a whole host of characters that can be recruited into the player's army, some of whom are entirely optional. While the classic Fire Emblem experience is as fun as ever, it can give rise to a lot of stress for new players as they fret over missing every optional character or passing every secret requirement.

Luckily for those players, this entry to the franchise actually features a small cast of optional characters, all of whom can be found fairly easily. While there are a variety of optional rewards in the game, the majority of the characters that can join the player’s army in the story are essential and added to the party automatically after reaching certain milestones in the campaign.

Missable Characters That Can Be Recruited

How to Unlock (& Recruit) Every Character In Fire Emblem: Engage (7)

There are a few characters players can miss out on while playing Fire Emblem Engage. Normally, they require the player to talk to them in Somniel during a specific chapter after fulfilling certain conditions. Streamlining this process is one of the big changes in Fire Emblem: Engage, but these can still be tricky.

Name

Starting Class

How to Get

Jean

Martial Monk

Jean can be unlocked after reaching Chapter 6, where he’ll be present during Paralogue 1. Talking to him on the battle map with Alear or ensuring that he survives until the end of the battle will mean he joins the army.

Anna

Axe Fighter

Anna, can be recruited by speaking with her using Alear during Paralogue 2. She must survive the mission and it must be completed for her to join the army.

Jade

Axe Armor

Jade is unusual in that Diamant must speak to her on the battle map during Chapter 9, not Alear. She must be reached quickly, as she will die against the enemies she’s fighting if the player takes too long. If Diamant makes it in time, she’ll join the army.

Seadall

Dancer

Seadall is first met in Chapter 15, however, the opportunity to recruit this fortune-teller doesn’t come until Chapter 16. After the fight sequence, have a conversation with him using Alear, and he’ll join the army.

Lindon

Sage

Lindon appears as an enemy in the battle during Chapter 18. To be recruited, Alear must speak with him before he’s killed. If successful, he’ll join the army.

Saphir

Warrior

Saphir is fairly easy to recruit, simply speak with her using Alear during Chapter 19, and she will join the army.

Remember that each character in Fire Emblem Engage is unique, offering both new tactical options and additional story content to engage in, making them well worth the effort.
