Big Rangers reset is blow to Barry Ferguson job chance says Monday Jury (2025)

Do Aberdeen have any chance of preventing another Celtic treble in next month's Scottish Cup final?

KEITH JACKSON: No. Celtic have been the strongest side in the country by a mile once again this season and they’ll cement that dominance with another domestic clean sweep. It’s what they do.

CRAIG SWAN: It’s tough to see Celtic being stopped and Aberdeen suffered badly at Hampden against the cup holders earlier in the season.

ANDY NEWPORT: Of course - but likely not a very big one. If Brendan Rodgers’ team plays to their full potential the Hoops should wrap up another clean sweep quite comfortably.

SCOTT BURNS: You would have to say Celtic would be big favourites. It is a final, though and anything can happen. Aberdeen have to believe they can do it!

Rangers are now killing time until the summer but would five league wins keep Barry Ferguson in the job?

KEITH: Probably not. This group of players are so untrustworthy that Ferguson’s credentials shouldn’t be judged on their results in any case. But he needed something spectacular to happen in the Europa League to persuade the Americans that he’s the long term solution.

CRAIG: Unlikely. Ferguson has held the fort as best as he could but Rangers really need a freshness and a reboot.

ANDY: Unlikely. I think he had to do something remarkable to put himself in the running and that was lifting the Europa League. He’s given it a right good go but I suspect the new owners will be looking for a candidate with more experience in the dugout.

SCOTT: I’m not convinced Rangers will win all five games. Their recent domestic form has been poor. I think it all depends on the takeover. If that continues to drag on then they need to put plans in place and Barry would then be in a good position.

He always wins a trophy in his second season mate. But would a Europa League crown keep Ange Postecoglou in the Spurs job?

KEITH: As ridiculous as it sounds, it’s not a sure thing. If he does it he’ll deserve a statue.

But he could end up with a P45 instead. And doesn’t that just perfectly sum up the mess that Tottenham have made of themselves?

CRAIG: Quite probably. Ange Postecoglou has had his issues in North London, but a Euro trophy would surely change the narrative surrounding him.

ANDY: Again unlikely! There’s a toxic relationship brewing down in north London and even while silverware is about as rare as complimentary words about Boris Johnson, I can see a parting of the ways coming.

SCOTT: It would be a fantastic achievement for Spurs to win the Europa League. I’m not sure it would do anything but paper over the cracks. The relationship with some of the fans is already past the point of no return.

After a massive weekend in the Championship, who are you backing to claim a top flight place?

KEITH: Falkirk will hang onto top spot by their fingernails and, when they do, they’ll be worthy champions. But Scott Brown’s Ayr United might still make it up through the play-offs. Don’t rule them out.

CRAIG: Falkirk remain in pole position. The late weekend loss was not good for the nerves of the camp, but they remain in control of the situation.

ANDY: Falkirk are still in the driving seat and I expect to see Scott Arfield fulfil his mission of leading the Bairns back to the top flight having been part of the squad that got them relegated in 2010.

SCOTT: Livingston have done brilliantly to turn the heat up on Falkirk. I just think the Bairns will have enough to get over the line.
